SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST DUE TO PRE-EXISTING PROBLEMS

“Heart attack can cause cardiac arrest and the patient can also have sudden cardiac death. Heart attack can be due to blockage of arteries especially when there are problems such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol , sugar, excessive smoking, obesity or poor genetics. So when you are not used to an exercise regimen and if you start a sudden exercise routine like you are weight lifting etc. ., you can collapse. Especially after Covid, there is continuous inflammation in our blood vessels.

Due to stress, increased blood pressure like what happened in this case, the arteries in the heart might have ruptured and this can cause sudden cardiac arrest,” says Dr. Sanjeev Gera, Director and HOD – Cardiology, Fortis Hospital, Noida.

SUDDEN ARRHYTHMIA CAN CAUSE A HEART ATTACK

“When you have risk factors, all of these things can cause small blockages to develop in the arteries of the heart which, under stressful conditions, can rupture and cause a heart attack. Cardiac arrest can also be due to a heart attack. heart or arrhythmias. There are certain genetic conditions that can cause it. Whenever there is acute stress, mental stress, physical stress, it can cause arrhythmias. Sudden arrhythmias can cause a heart attack. There is a condition called coronary artery dissection. The arteries that supply the heart can suddenly become dissected or ruptured. This can cause a heart attack, leading to sudden cardiac arrest and death,” Dr. Gera added.

OTHER CAUSES OF SUDDEN CARDIAC DEATH

“When a patient dies suddenly, the most common cause is an entity called sudden cardiac death. By definition, sudden cardiac death is death occurring within an hour of the onset of symptoms. Other causes of sudden death can embolism, significant intracranial hemorrhage, or toxin exposure. Aortic dissection or rupture is another cause. In this man, the most likely cause would be a heart attack with ventricular tachycardia/fibrillation resulting in death. Individuals people with underlying heart conditions may die suddenly due to extreme stress/excitement This may be due to a ruptured plaque in the coronary arteries or the onset of an arrhythmia due to excitation. These types of deaths occur during thrilling emotional matches/situations, it is unlikely that the movie itself caused the death,” says Dr. Pradeep Kumar D, Consultant senior – Interventional cardiology, Aster CMI Hospital.

DEFECTIVE LIFESTYLE, GENETIC PREDISPOSITION

“Unfortunately, in our country, many young people have heart attacks that go unnoticed. Every year, cases are increasing in India. Heart attack cases have increased by 15% to 20% in the last 2 months. Reasons for young heart attacks are diabetes, sedentary lifestyle, air pollution, stress, hard workouts, steroids, etc. another mutation of this faulty gene makes the Indian more prone to heart attacks. Even during COVID, many young people died from heart attacks because COVID was not just a disease of the lungs but also an inflammation. Even if you have no symptoms, you should check your diabetes and blood pressure regularly. At a time when sugar or BP are high, you are not aware of it, initially these two things give no prior symptoms. To maintain good heart health, you need to have stress test, 2D ultrasound, cholesterol levels and ECG,” says Dr. Ravi Gupta, Consultant Cardiologist at Wockhardt Hospital, Central Mumbai.
